Mini-School on Disordered Systems 2008
and
6th International Workshop on Disordered Systems

08 - 12 September, La Falda, Córdoba - ARGENTINA

From Nanodevices to Biomolecules: 50 years after Anderson and Landauer

Location

Hotel del Lago, La Falda, Córdoba.

Scope

The main topics addressed in these events are related to the physics of quantum interferences in the space and time domain. In particular the effects of disorder, classical chaos and long range correlations on low-dimensional systems are connected with a broad range of interests including:

  • Disordered solids
  • Wave-guides
  • Nonlinear optics
  • Dynamical chaos
  • Transport phenomena
  • Nanostructures and superlattices
  • Wave dynamics
  • Time reversed acoustics
  • Fock-space Localization
  • Driven Systems, etc.
  • In this opportunity we will devote a special attention to the 50th anniversary of the works of Philip W. Anderson and Rolf Landauer. All the current vitality of the field, with applications ranging from nanodevices to biomolecules, is certainly a sequel of their innovative visions. Hence, we will devote a special effort to introduce the new generation of physicists to their work and its consequences.

As in the previous editions, this forum also seeks to gather scientists with related specialties and stimulate fruitful scientific collaborations.

The First and Second Workshops took place in Arica (Chile) in 1998 and 2000; the Third Workshop in Puebla (Mexico) in 2002; the Fourth in Leganes, Madrid (Spain) in 2004 and the Fifth in Maceio (Brazil) 2006.

    Tutorials for the Mini-School

    M. Büttiker, Geneve Quantum Transport
    H. Pastawski/ K. Slevin Anderson Localization
    F. Izrailev, Puebla Quantum Chaos
    R. Jalabert, Strasbourg Semiclassical Theory
    R. Roemer, Warwick Transport in DNA
    C. Negreira, Montevideo Time Reversal Acoustics
    H. Nazareno, Brazilia Bloch Oscillations
    U. Kuhl, Marburg Microwave Cavities
    G. Ingold, Augsburg Quantum Dissipation

    Fees and Lodging

The reduced fee of 100 Euro will cover meals and lodging in double room basis during the whole workshop. Lodging in single room is available at the full fee of 150 Euro. Students are expected to arrive at the Hotel on Sunday afternoon. Workshop participants who wish to come on Sunday 7 are welcomed but a stay in Cordoba city could result attractive. Hotel installations will be available in Friday 12 afternoon for workshop discussion groups. However, rooms must be checked-out by 14:00, i.e. after workshop lunch.

Participants who want to lodge at CORDOBA CITY previous and after the conference are advised to do their own reservations. There are plenty of alternatives, but we recommend three Hotels which are in a central but quiet area downtown, where Old Jesuitic Buildings and most of the attractions are located.

    Economic Support

There will be available a limited number of stay fellowships for advanced degree students and Ph.D. students from Argentina. Students and Young Researchers from Latin-America countries other than Argentina can also apply for partial/total travel support through a grant received from Abdus Salam ICTP.
